What to Expect

When you visit First Coast Audiology for you or your child’s hearing needs, you can expect your appointment to be broken into a few key parts.

Patient filling out paper work

We will ask you to complete questionnaires prior to your appointment. At the first appointment you will be scheduled with an audiologist who will administer a hearing test to make sure you or your child’s hearing is normal. Then we will proceed with a series of tests primarily from the Buffalo Model developed by Jack Katz, Ph.D. The testing consists of a combination of words and sentences presented in various ways to provide more than 30 indicators to help identify APD and what types of problems are present.

Audiologist doing an ear exam

A report will be sent with the results and recommendations. A follow-up appointment (virtual or in person) is recommended to go over results and talk about the next steps.

Audiologist doing a hearing test

You will be scheduled with Angie Pardee, M.S. CCC-SLP, to evaluate written and oral language, speech, and related capabilities. Preliminary results will be provided.

Cognitive screening paperwork results

You will receive a report with a treatment plan. Treatment plans generally include 12 sessions. At the end of the 12 sessions we will repeat the auditory processing evaluation to determine if more therapy is needed.
