Speech pathology and audiology!

At First Coast Brain Builders, speech pathology and audiology are our specialties. We use an interprofessional practice model to improve the care we provide to our clients. What is interprofessional practice? It is a framework we use for collaboration between professions that allows us to learn from one another and maximize our clients’ progress.  Each team member contributes her professional expertise regarding evaluation and treatment and voila! A comprehensive plan of care is designed!

With speech pathology and audiology, this interprofessional framework is critical. Whether our clients have hearing loss or an Auditory Processing Disorder, it is essential for communication to be consistent between the audiologist and speech-language pathologist. As a speech-language pathologist, having an audiologist within the same practice is a dream come true. I’m able to immediately communicate with the audiologist about sounds my client is not hearing, speech patterns that arise, or even if I notice a build up of wax when checking the client’s hearing aids or ear canals.

From babies to adults, communication between the audiologist and speech-language pathologist about progress and functional everyday skills is one of the keys to success! First Coast Brain Builders’ interprofessional approach is what sets us apart. Having a speech-language pathologist and audiologist within one practice is unique. It truly is an ideal situation for professionals who work with those who have hearing loss or an Auditory Processing Disorder.
